Questions
Where do I find my VIN?
The 17-character Vehicle Identification Number is on the dashboard by the windshield (driver's side), on the driver's door jamb, and on your registration and insurance card. VINs never use the letters I, O or Q, and Recallpage checks the 9th character, so a typo shows an error instead of the wrong car.
Does Recallpage show whether my car's recall was already fixed?
No. NHTSA's public data lists recalls for a model year, so Recallpage shows every recall for that year, make and model. To see whether a repair is still open on your specific car, enter its VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or ask a dealer for that brand. Recall repairs are free at the dealer.
How do recall alerts work?
Save a vehicle to My Garage, then turn on Recall Alerts there and allow notifications. Recallpage remembers the recalls each vehicle already has and checks NHTSA's public data periodically in the background; when a new one appears you get a notification, and the vehicle shows it as new. iOS decides exactly when background checks run (less often in Low Power Mode or if you rarely open the app), so you can also tap Check for New Recalls any time. Recall alerts are free.
A vehicle shows no ratings or no complaints. Is something wrong?
Probably not. NHTSA doesn't crash-test every model every year, and some vehicles have no owner complaints on file. Recallpage shows what the public data has and says so when there is nothing.
The information looks wrong or out of date.
Recallpage shows NHTSA's public data as it is published and doesn't edit it. Recalls are filed by manufacturers, and complaints are written by owners. If something is wrong, you can tell NHTSA at nhtsa.gov; you can also email us and we'll check that the app shows it correctly.
What's free and what's Pro?
Free, with no limits: VIN decode, year/make/model lookup, recalls and recall details, NCAP crash-test ratings, the owner complaint summary, My Garage (as many vehicles as you like) and recall alerts. Recallpage Pro is a one-time unlock, not a subscription: $9.99 launch price for the first 30 days, then $11.99 one-time. It adds every owner complaint, filterable by component, a PDF vehicle report, compare 2-3 vehicles side by side, and sharing. One unlock covers your whole family with Family Sharing.
I bought Pro on another device. How do I get it back?
Open Recallpage, go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account you used to buy it.
How do I get a refund?
Apple handles all payments, so refunds go through Apple: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose "Request a refund". We can't see or refund App Store payments ourselves.
What is "Use mock data" in Settings?
It shows recorded sample answers (a 2003 Honda Accord and a 2020 Toyota Camry) without using the internet, with its own separate garage. It's for testing and demos; leave it off for real lookups.
Is my data private?
Yes. No account, no ads, no tracking, and your garage stays on your device. See the Privacy Policy.
